Our Mission.
Our mission is to provide support and hope to patients and families affected by AIH through disease education and research opportunities.
Our Executive Director, Craig Lammert, M.D., established the AIHA in 2015 along with patient leaders from across the country. Dr. Lammert is a clinician and researcher at Indiana University School of Medicine who is funded by the National Institutes of Health to study AIH.
By pairing the expertise of a hepatologist with the firsthand experiences of patients, we create innovative and impactful programming that improves lives for families struggling with autoimmune hepatitis.
Core Initiatives.
From our national conferences and virtual support groups to COVID-19 programing and a patient registry, we provide the most up-to-date information about autoimmune hepatitis, offer support, and drive research. Our core initiatives include:
- Our patient conference held every year. To date, we’ve held three in-person conferences and two virtual conferences with hundreds of attendees.
- Educational videos and webinars
- Virtual support groups to bring patients and families together who are going through similar experiences.
- Programming to help patients deal with depression, anxiety, fatigue, and poor sleep, common symptoms of AIH. We offered a mindfulness course at our most recent conference and have developed an online course to help patients improve sleep.
- The AIHA patient registry, which launched in 2021, aims to drive research into new and better treatments that improve patients’ quality of life.
